Multi-Factor Authentication is your best chance of keeping your email secure
Announcements of a company’s computer system being hacked is a constant in today’s news feeds. Small and medium business attacks go vastly unreported. Phishing emails are a common method used by hackers to gain access of your business email account. According to Symantc, three out of four companies have reported falling victim to phishing attempts in 2017. Hackers disguise an email to appear as if was sent by a trusted company such as Adobe, Google Docs, or Microsoft Office 365. When prompted, a user enters their username and password into the fraudulent site. Hackers uses the newly acquired credentials to access your email account. Most folks don’t know they already possess a powerful defense against these attacks. That defense is Multi-Factor Authentication.
Phishing emails can be difficult for security software to detect. No security filter works against Phishing attempts 100% of the time. With these attacks becoming more sophisticated, its easy to see how a person may fall victim. Multi-Factor authentication is a guaranteed way to protect your email account from these types of attacks. Multi-Factor authentication is not just for high profile financial institutions and Fortune 500 companies, its available to all small businesses through Office 365, or Gmail. Once you have multi-factor authentication enabled, your email account cannot be accessed without a verification code. That code is sent to your phone via text message. So, unless the hacker has your phone in their hand, there is no way for them to access your mail. Don’t worry, this will only be for remote access, you don’t need to entering a code every time you open your Outlook.
